Mexicano & Americano padel tournaments – help

A free app for running social padel tournaments, made for NTNUI Padel's Saturday sessions in Trondheim. It draws the rounds, keeps score, shows everything on a TV and lets players follow along on their phones.

På norsk: Gratis app for Mexicano- og Americano-turneringer i padel. Den setter opp rundene, regner ut stillingen, viser banene på TV og lar spillerne følge med på mobilen.

Americano or Mexicano?

Both are played in pairs that change every round, and every point you win counts for you alone. The difference is how the next round is drawn.

You can also play with fixed teams instead of individuals; then teams rotate instead of players.

Running a Saturday, step by step

  1. Get the players. On the front page the app fetches who signed up for this Saturday on tennis.ntnui.no. Press Create with these players. You can also Paste list – one name per line, or paste a whole web page or chat and use ✨ Find names with AI.
  2. Check the courts. Under Players & courts, the first court is the top court. Rename them, reorder them, and give each a colour so they are easy to tell apart on screen.
  3. Check the settings. Mexicano or Americano, points per match (24 by default), points for resting (half the match points by default), and how names are shown on the courts.
  4. Start. The first round is drawn. Players who can't fit on a court rest this round.
  5. Enter the scores as matches finish, then press Next round →. Repeat until time is up, optionally with a Final round, then 🏁 Finish.

Everything is saved as you go. Refreshing the page or going back doesn't lose anything, and Undo (or Ctrl/⌘ + Z) takes back the last change.

Entering scores

Resting, late arrivals, no-shows and substitutes

On a TV

Laptop mirrored to the TV (the usual setup): press 📺 TV. The board fills the screen – every court with the players' current ranks, who is resting, and the full standings – and you run the evening from it:

TV as a second screen: Settings → 🖥 Board on a second screen opens the board in its own window for the TV, while the laptop keeps the normal view. In Chrome or Edge it can move itself to the TV once you allow it to use your screens.

Players' phones

The TV board shows a QR code. Scanning it opens the live courts and standings, which update by themselves. With Players can enter their own scores switched on (📱 Live link), players can report their result from their phone.

The Tour, ratings and player pages

Where the data is kept

Tournaments are saved in the browser you use and sent to the app's server so the TV, other devices and players' phones can see them. The app stores players' names and results only – no email addresses or phone numbers. Player lists are read from tennis.ntnui.no; the app never writes anything there.

Questions

Does it cost anything or need an account?

No. It's free, has no accounts and works in any modern browser on a laptop, tablet or phone.

How many players and courts can it handle?

Any number. Each court takes four players (or two teams); the rest rest, in turns. With 19 players on 4 courts, three rest each round.

Why do the ranks before the names change during a round?

They follow the live standings, which change as the scores come in.

We played somewhere else – can old results be added?

Yes. Results can be imported as points per player per round (for example from americano.ninja), so they count in the Tour, ratings and player pages.

Can I use it for other clubs?

Yes – skip the NTNUI list and paste or type your players.
